The story of The Bottomfeeders is a true one - animator Rick Dolishny was trapped on an express commuter train from Toronto to Oshawa, Ontario and was subjected to the verbal assaults of two unlikely characters. No ethnic or demographic minority escaped their wrath. But what started as an offensive trip to the dumpster became a metaphor for just how far we have to go as a society to accept our neighbours. Featuring the voice talents of James Anderson, Carlie Baxter, Bruce Hunter, and Leslie Seiler. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, but it's particularly great when it's funny too! June 3, 2003 - Train 48 was pretty odd ... dunno if I'd call it voyeuristic, maybe crude. But I was sold on the concept when one of the characters pulled out that day's Toronto Sun. I'm not saying I liked the show, but I got it at that point. Improv is really tough to do on TV so it will be interesting to see if the characters can sustain it for a season. And as an editor I can say "whoa" on the jerky cam. Way too much. We get it! :) June 2, 2003 - Check out "Train 48" on Global in Canada tonight. It's the new "reality-soap opera" based on the conversations of people on the commuter train. Click "Story", above, to read about how the idea for "The Bottomfeeders" came from the same premise last year. Train 48 has some very talented improv names including Lisa Merchant and Ron Murphy (Director) whom I have worked with at The Second City. Good luck with your new show! January 24, 2003 - A new web site is created to hold some of the great looking renderings coming through the pipe. Also, I've scanned in some source material and will be posting some before and after pictures of things like Union Station and my virtual Union Station. December 20 - A long summer workin' overtime and saving up for the big day: my new daughter Jessica Jane was born two weeks ago and I'm taking the entire month off! Great time to spend with the family, toasting chestnuts, and working on The Bottomfeeders. Thanks to everyone who has visited the site over the past few months but now, finally, the real work has begun! Check back weekly for updates. PS: I've done some testing of DV editing systems and Sonic Foundry Vegas Video rocks! July 4 - A few weeks off for the Second City Alumni Week Gala (hope you made it out), plus a few weekends off for summer fun, and I'm back on the saddle. Scott Burton is busy working on an authentic GM locomotive, I'm rigging the characters for speech and movement. Just today I locked the audio. The show is just over 7 minutes plus the intro and closing credits. May 23 - Voice recording went great! Click the Voiceover link at right for pictures from the session. May 20 - Just was introduced to the independent movie "Bottomfeeders". Name of our cartoon has changed to "The Bottomfeeders". May 19 - Trevor Stooke has begun work on the "Official" web site. May 15 - Designer Dayle Brown will be designing the poster and assisting with the overall art-direction of the film. May 13 - The script has been locked with the addition of a couple new characters: Francois the Fag and a little mouse (right) who avoids certain death under the 5:53.
